Album review – on the IndieX Music Website
‘Winds of Change’, released December 2021 sees David reflecting of the uncertain future we are creating for our children. Released on the Futureworks Music label, ‘Winds of Change features contributions by rapper Baxter Fielding of MNR020, drummer Joe Savage and guitarist Altin Gjoni.
From the moment the first track, titled “Winds of Change” opens with its soft, melancholic and unique instrumentation, you know you’re in for a one of a kind ride. The track slowly crescends and evolves as new elements are slowly introduced, such as the powerful electric guitar and complex percussion, before eventually the awe-inspiring narrative and smooth vocals softly float amongst the cinematic, musical soundscape. Towards the second half of this four minute track, angelic, dreamy elements and a powerful electric guitar solo ensure the listener is constantly both intrigued and engaged.
The second track, entitled “Eastern Wind” , takes inspiration from a wide variety of genres – from both traditional western music and world music – and is layered with David Cummins’ own distinct and unique twists on Alternative Rock.
It has an incredibly radiating, atmospheric sound that truly immerses you. The production of this track, and indeed all the tracks in “Winds of Change”, is definitely first-class. Two words to describe this – Stunning, and Dynamic, that’s for sure.
The finale track is titled “Desert Wind” most songs that are of this length (5+ minutes) eventually lose their interesting aspects and the listener tends to get bored.. however this could not be further from the case in this ever developing, emotive track. The way the electric guitar follows the melodic patterns of the other instrumentation, including piano, forces you to sway along to it’s epic infectious vibe. In some parts of the song, especially the electric solo, legendary rock band “Queen” definitely appear to have some indirect inspirations.
